Jamaica Plain Green-Rainbow Local
Next Meeting:
Sunday January 25th at 5pm at the Bowdich Community Room, 82 Green Street, Jamaica Plain
Please note that we have moved this meeting ahead one week from the regular meeting time due to the Martin Luther King Holiday.
Welcome to the Jamaica Plain Green-Rainbow Party web page. More information will be on the way soon, but for now here is some basic information about our local group.
In its short existence, the Jamaica Plain Green Rainbow Party has blossomed
with internal and external growth. Perhaps you saw our beautiful banner at
the March 29th peace rally on the common or in the Boston Globe? Fronted by
our banner we commandeered the corner of Columbus and Mass Ave at another
peace event on April 13th as part of United for Peace's standout. Our peace
activities have flowed from our regular discussion of the war and
alternatives including our mini-study group on "just war." We try to have a
"political" discussion as a part of each meeting both to expand and focus
our green political impulses. While our group values enjoyable meetings
with snacks and laughter, we also strive for "self" improvement with a
regular evaluation, structured agendas and follow-up on action items.
On April 6th we sponsored a community organizing training workshop and
committed ourselves to building our group through one-on-one community
organizing to build relationships in the community. We have given our
support to the Campaign for Healthy Communities effort to promote fair taxation and budgets and helped to promote a MassCHC forum in Roxbury in March. On May 3rd we will be participating in JP's quintessentially green community event, Wake Up the Earth, with a table, guitars and singing, and a Jr. Stump Speech event to promote political speech making as a fundamental activity of grassroots democracy.
The JP Green Rainbow Party meets at 5pm on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at the Bowditch Community Room at 82 Green St. in Jamaica Plain. While centered in Jamaica Plain, we draw members from Mission Hill/Roxbury, Brookline and Quincy and would welcome new members from the greater Jamaica Plain area.
We also have a mailing list which we encourage you to join.
