Thank you for sending out this information.
Some comments and questions:
1. I assume that all of the "candidates" (in parenthesis, because I
recognize that there has been a disagreement over the meaning of the
term), received full instructions on their requirements in submitting a
diverse list of delegates. Is this true?
It looks like the 3 candidates (Mesplay, Swift and McKinney) have done
an excellent job.
2. Summary of delegates appointed by the GRP for the non-candidates
(Ball, Brown and Nader)
African American (0)
Latino (1)
Asian, Pacific, and Native American (0)
Gay. Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (1)
3.Delegates (and alternates) selected by the GRP to serve as
uncommitted delegates (not pledged to any candidate, and according to
the rules of the convention, free to vote or abstain on all votes
taken by the convention).
African American (0)
Latino (0)
Asian, Pacific, and Native American (0)
Gay. Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (1)
4. Gender Parity:
With regard to gender parity; of 25 out of 32 delegates already selected:
12 are women, 13 are men. Progress in meeting gender parity goals: Fair
(Question--Why "fair"? It looks like that so far, we have been doing an excellent job of making gender parity. Please explain why you are saying, "Fair"?)
5. Comments, Questions and Suggestions
a. It looks like our state party has so far done a poor job of proposing a diverse delegation.
Please explain what steps have taken place to encourage a diverse delegation? Please report any action that took place at yesterday's StateCom meeting, if any, to encourage sending a diverse delegation. Please report on any plans to make the delegation more diverse.
b.Suggestion: No matter whom the Alternates are, can each one, WHO WILL CONTRIBUTE TO ACHIEVING OUR DIVERSITY GOALS, be asked to serve as delegates?
c. I may have made a mistaken assumption. Were there any other diversity goals part of our plan--specifically low-income and "handicapped" (I apologize; I am blocking out a more appropriate word.)? If yes, why haven't these categories been listed? If no, was a mistake made? Regardless whether or not it is part of our current goals (I believe that it should.), have any attempts been made to encourage those who will need extra support from our party from attending? Have we identified any of these potential delegates who we think will need support from the party to attend?
