Hi Elie,
I think that it is significant that our Secretary has listened to the
co-chairs and has failed to follow our by-laws and
published our report.
I find that it is significant that this failure to follow the by-laws or
execute the decisions made by the policy-making
bodies of our party is not abnormal behavior by some of the officers of our
party.
I think that this whole thing has been significant--both in terms of the
content of the issue (The role of our party in
selecting the Green Party's nomination for the president), the major
disagreements over the process that has been
followed which has led a growing number of us believing that something
terrible has gone wrong), and the terrible
process and bad feelings that have developed over the handling this
controversy that is threatening to tear our
party apart. I think that all of this is significant.
I think that our "small band" has "suddenly seemed" to have grown. I think
that it is significant that 3 of our
candidates for statewide office (Grace, Martina and Jamie) have co-signed
the Minority Report. I think that it is
significant that 9 members of State Comm. have signed this document.
I think that it is significant that so many of us have decided to take this
step. I think that it is significant that the
so-called "majority" continues to do all that it can to censor our voices.
I think that it is curious that you would question the significance of the
Minority Report.
I think that it will be significant when more of our members will actually
read the contents of the Minority Report.
Significantly Yours,
Mike Heichman

Mike,
I regret that I find myself in the position of having to establish for
you that I do know how to read.
> This section of the By-laws states: "Minority Opinions. Significant
> minority opinions within the Green-Rainbow Party will be recorded and
> communicated to other national and regional Green organizations as
> appropriate."
I am sure that the quoted statement means exactly what is written, and
that it was deliberately written in such a manner as to preclude abuse
of process. Let us not ignore the phrases, "Significant . . .",
and, another phrase, ". . . as appropriate."
Do you favor leaving the interpretation of two critical qualifications
to a single individual? Or would you prefer a consensus of, say, the
Adcom.
But my real question is very different. Your e-mail, the third such,
gives rise to this How, in your view does the content of this message
advance the expressed desire, to convince people of the need for
another way of doing something that you wish accomplished, by
reasonable discourse within a small group committed to discovering ways
establishing a consensus that would be found reasonable by other
members of the party with whom you disagree?
It would perhaps be easier on me personally, if you could explain this
to us all. I have no wish to silence anyone, or to exclude anyone from
the group of people committed to talking to one another with the
purpose of finding ground for consensus. Or compelling anyone to join
it. People have all kinds of motives for being where they are or
leaving, and people like us, perhaps more advanced in years, must have
seen enough to not wonder at it.
A 'growing dissent' might cause the Church of England to relent and
permit the dissenters their own way. But I doubt that even the GRP,
loaded as it is private personal agendas, would take seriously the
mimicking of Duopoly politics, with people coming and going as they
choose, and should choose, as an argument for achieving any unworkable
consensus. Reality does rule. And only critical awareness and
self-criticism help us in discovering what that reality is.
Peace,
Elie Yarden
