Ballot Access News reported that Matt Gonzalez changed his
registration to independent to avoid disqualification in a few states.

Idaho Would Not Have Barred Gonzalez March 6th, 2008

"Several days ago, Matt Gonzalez (Ralph Nader's running mate this
year) said he was switching his registration from "Green" to
"independent" to avoid ballot access problems in Idaho, Oregon and
Delaware. It turns out that Idaho would not have disqualified Gonzalez
from appearing on the general election ballot as an independent, on
the basis that he is a registered Green. Gonzalez had received
misinformation about Idaho."
