[candidate-development] ballot questions

Hi CDLC,

Thanks Grace for sending this out.

As the sponsor of the ballot question initiative, which was passed by
the last State Committee meeting, I'm also concerned that I haven't
heard of any progress.

The night before the meeting Jill and I talked about the proposal and I
agreed with her recommended changes. I can't find a copy of her e-mail
in the archives and Larry hasn't sent out the minutes of our last State
Committee meeting in January. So I don't have the language of the
proposal that was adopted.

At a recent meeting of the CDLC, Gary and Jill agreed to represent CDLC
in working on this proposal. With the State Committee meeting coming up
on April 12, I was wondering what has been happening.

In my proposal, I made a number of suggestions on how we go about
deciding on the ballot question(s) that we might want to place on the
ballot. I came up with a timeline from February to November. Below is
just the timeline from February to early April.

I would like to know what has and hasn't been done.

Thanks,

Mike Heichman
---------------------------------

February-Early April:

1. CDLC will publicize and organize the Task Force.
2. We will ask the Regional Meetings to discuss this idea.
3. We will contact Local Chapters and ask them to discuss this idea, as
well as encouraging them to run candidates.
4. We will solicit ideas for potential ballot question.
5. If support develops for a very small number of issues, we will do
some initial outreach to local and statewide groups who might be
interested in working with us.
6. The Task Force will become knowledgeable about the appropriate
campaign laws.
7. If sufficient support develops for a very small number of issues, the
Task Force will come up with a plan and make a proposal for the April
State Comm. meeting

April State Comm. Meeting: We will decide whether we will proceed with
this project.
