Dear Owen
*If you are a person of faith, please take action today* to help make sure
that your support for marriage equality is heard in the upcoming legislative
debate on marriage equality. The Freedom to Marry Coalition supports the
Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry's efforts to make your
progressive voices of faith heard.
Here are three ways you can help:
*1) **Submit a one page personal story*
<http://ga4.org/ct/t7Siz9p1rzIf/>*to the Religious Coalition for the
Freedom to Marry (RCFM) Testimony Book.
*
This book will be delivered to Massachusetts legislators. Personal
testimonies by people of faith have a unique ability to move hearts and
minds. *The deadline for submitting your one-page testimony is April 17*.
Learn more about this project, get tips for writing your testimony as a
person of faith, and submit your testimony online at
http://www.RCFM.org<http://ga4.org/ct/gdSiz9p1rzIt/>
.
*2) **Sign the Roman Catholic Statement*
<http://ga4.org/ct/tpSiz9p1rzIv/>*for the Freedom to Marry
*
More than 2,800 Catholics have already signed the statement. If you are
Catholic, signing this statement is a great way to help us counter the
efforts of the church hierarchy. Go to
http://www.RCFM.org<http://ga4.org/ct/gdSiz9p1rzIt/>for more
information and to sign online.
*3) Contact the RCFM for more information about how you can help*
With the backing of the MassEquality Education Fund, RCFM has just hired a
field organizer to work with people of faith, clergy and supportive
congregations. You can contact RCFM directly to find out more about what you
can do by calling 617.878.2390 or sending a message to info at rcfm.org.
------------------------------
*Our opponents have long tried to popularize the notion that all people of
faith oppose equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. **We know that is
simply not true.*
The United Church of Christ, the Episcopal Church, the Unitarian
Universalist Association, and Reform Judaism support marriage equality. In
fact, Unitarians have been solemnizing same-sex marriages within their faith
tradition since 1984. Thousands of fair-minded Roman Catholics break with
their church hierarchy on the question of civil marriage for gay and lesbian
couples.
We must do a better job of getting this information to legislators and the
public. That's why we are sending you this message from the Religious
Coalition for the Freedom to Marry <http://ga4.org/ct/gdSiz9p1rzIt/>. The
Freedom to Marry Coalition helped found the RCFM in 1998. We have worked
closely together ever since. The RCFM is also a founding member of the
MassEquality coalition and has been very successful at identifying and
mobilizing support for equal marriage rights among religious leaders and
people of faith. More than 600 Massachusetts clergy, faith leaders and
congregations have signed RCFM's Declaration of Religious Support.
People of faith have an important role to play in our campaign to protect
equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. I hope you will help by taking
action today and by forwarding this message to your family and friends.
Thank you,
Chris Shorrock & Rob Henry
