Greetings,
The following letter is being sent to the Party's complete email list,
but since it has not yet been distributed, we are sending it to
various committee lists. Please feel free to distribute it broadly.
Thank you.
Jamie, If possible, when you send the letter out, please change the
first paragraph to "today's primary voters" instead of "tomorrow's."
Thanks.
Nat and Merelice, co-chairs
To Green-Rainbow colleagues,
As Co-Chairs of your Party, we write to express the honor we feel in
being part of the important effort to provide tomorrow's primary
voters an alternative to business as usual.
While the candidates of the two major parties are trying to tap into
the electorate's desire for change, only the Green Party candidates
can offer REAL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER!
To convey your view that fundamental change is needed for the survival
of our planet and its people, your participation in Tuesday's primary
is needed.
When you receive the Green-Rainbow Party ballot, you will have six
outstanding choices for President. In order of appearance, they are:
- Jared Ball,African-American journalist, professor, and hip-hop scholar;
- Ralph Nader, consumer advocate and Green Party presidential nominee
in 1996 and 2000;
- Elaine Brown, former leader of the Black Panther Party;
- Kat Swift, activist and former Campus Greens organizer;
- Cynthia McKinney,African-American former Democratic Party congresswoman; and
- Kent Mesplay, Native-American environmental engineer who sought the
Green Party presidential nomination in 2004.
Two candidates, Ball and Brown, have recently announced their
withdrawals from the race. The remaining four, including exploratory
candidate Ralph Nader, are seeking to win delegates to the nominating
convention. All six candidates are valid primary candidates whom you
may wish to honor with your vote.
We would like to make it clear that the Green-Rainbow Party is not
endorsing, favoring, or counseling for or against any of the six
candidates. We seek to make this clear since it is possible you may
have received an email entitled "Grace Ross Here, Please Support
Cynthia McKinney" which implies that only three candidates are validly
on the ballot.
Finally, if you don't feel prepared to make a choice, don't let that
stop you from getting out and voting! The other option on the ballot
is "No Preference," and that also sends a message. It tells delegates
who will attend July's Green Party Presidential Nominating Convention
in Chicago that you want them to be able to observe the candidates
between the primary and the convention and exercise their best
judgment. And your participation in our primary tells all the
candidates in all parties that you support the values and positions of
the Green Party of the U.S.
Sustainably yours,
Nat Fortune and Merelice, Green-Rainbow Party Co-Chairs
