The reasons we, the PCSC (Presidential Campaign Support Committee) rejected
IRV when we finalized the floor rules that we submitted to the GPUS
Coordinating Committee ( this decision against IRV being, by the way, one of
the few PCSC decisions that I had agreed with ) was very simply that we had
multiple balloting and a situation where many delegates were pledged on at
least the first round and several on future rounds. Multiple balloting
eliminated the need for IRV, since this is precisely what IRV does emulate.
Furthermore, IRV within this instance could not fairly have been implemented
since many delegates, being pledged, would not have been able to indicate
a second or third (etc.) choice. I was among PCSC members adamant that IRV
NOT be used.
Lorna Salzman, by the way, did indeed intent to seek the nomination herself.
This situation changed
only when floor rules eliminating candidates had been adopted AFTER the
primaries, when it became
clear that she could not emerge as a compromise candidate.

hi all
David Rolde asked me to comment. I am not
very
goodat this andI may contradict myself.
I believe the convention was run un
democratically. There is so much evidence to support this such as messed
up primary
votes, stupid floor rules, and the stupid time crunch. And the CCC and
Steering Committees which at first said only Camejo and
Cobb could speak. And the fact the whole descision was made NOT by IRV.
On the other hand it was not rigged. If
anything, the Nader/Camejo people tried from before the Convention to screw
it
up. Camejo misled people to think he wasrunning when he was a shill for
Nader. I hate that word shill now. So un Green. So was Lorna a shill.
Although I voted for Mesplay I AM PROUD TO VOTE FOR COBB "warts
and all" as someone said. We only have three months. Not so sure/happy
about LaMarche.
OK only three months. I want Cobb/LaMarche to do the
best damn they can-
did you know Nader not on the ballot in California and the Greens are? Did
you know the Greens are on the ballot in Pennsylvania AND PENNSYLVANIA IS A
MAJOR SWING STATE? ALL I KNOW IS I WANT STEIN, ZITOLA, JOHNSON, AND
BARKLEY
TO WIN,
ALONG WITH THE OTHERS.
So when do we start ironboarding "canvassing"?
