Hi Everyone:

Thanks to Dave and Merelice for the sample press release.

I just sent out this press release to the Chelsea Record. Over the years
they have printed many of my letters and articles--almost always about
public education.

I hope that other members of the delegation will have the time to send out
their own press release.

Mike Heichman

Subject: FW: [GNC] Draft press releases about delegates going to the
national convention?

Chelsea Record:

proposed press release for the next Thursday issue (June 24) of the Chelsea
Record:

CHELSEA HIGH TEACHER IN MILWAUKEE FOR THE GREEN PARTY'S NATIONAL CONVENTION

Chelsea High teacher, Mike Heichman, just retired after teaching in the
Chelsea public schools for 34 years this Tuesday. The next day he flew out
to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to attend the Green Party's presidential nomination
convention. Mike is the Kent Mesplay for president coordinator for
Massachusetts and is part of the 36-member Massachusetts delegation.
Massachusetts is fielding the fifth largest state delegation to the
convention. The delegation's size is determined in part by the number of
registered voters in the Green-Rainbow Party (formerly Massachusetts Green
Party), which is the state affiliate of the United States Green Party.

Other candidates for the Green Party presidential nomination are Lorna
Salzman, David Cobb, and Paul Glover. Additionally there are a few favorite
son and daughter candidates. The largest groups of delegates are currently
uncommitted to any candidate. Ralph Nader, who was the Green Party
presidential candidate in 1996 and 2000, qualified for two MA delegates but
has decided to try to run as an independent candidate; he has also indicated
that he will not accept a draft if nominated by the Green Party. However,
there are delegates around the country who hope that the convention will
endorse Nader's candidacy. Mike predicts that "...this is going to be an
exciting and wide-open convention and anything that can happen. I am
confident that the party will come together and make a wise decision which
will unify the party for a strong national campaign for the fall.

Mike said that he is excited about attending his first national convention
since he attended the Citizens Party's convention in 1980 which nominated
Barry Commoner for president. "We plan to run a vigorous campaign for the
Green Party nominee here in Massachusetts. In addition, there are several
local Green-Rainbow Party races for State Representative and State Senate.
But the presidential race is the only statewide race this year, and we need
to obtain 3% of that vote to maintain official ballot status."

Mike added that he was proud to stand for a political party that was
providing a real alternative to the current administration. "The Democratic
Party and its soon-to-be-nominee, John Kerry have provided weak opposition
to Republican rule. If they are the loyal opposition, the word "loyal" can
be seen in bold letters on a billboard and the word "opposition" can only be
viewed while using a high-powered microscope. I am proud to be an active
member of the Green-Rainbow Party and am looking forward to an energetic
campaign across the country on behalf of peace and economic, environmental
and social justice."

P.S. Let me know if you would like me to submit an article about the Green
Party's convention.
