[GNC] info on candidates

Hello, all,

I'm responding to both Owen's call to support Salzman and Aimee's argument
regarding Salzman's stand on one issue.

Apologies to Owen, but on May 12, Salzman once again proved herself a
stalking-horse on the Ralph Nader 2004 yahoo group. If it were purely
Salzman a person were voting for, fine - debate her stands (hopefully at
the convention and not endlessly over this email list). But it's not her
that a delegate will end up voting for when she throws her (i.e. her
delegates') support to Nader.

I don't mean to say anything here about pros & cons of Nader, I just mean
to point out the stalking-horse issue (all candidates except Mesplay & Cobb
are stalking-horses, it appears, with Comejo being one of Nader's VP
choices - Comejo recently argued that the GP should ENDORSE Nader while
NOMINATING a GP candidate (?!)). These are the facts. We're going to be in
for an ugly surprise if we don't admit this as reality.

Salzman's May 12 statement is below (as brought to my attention by 2
members of my local).

I hope all candidates will release their delegates after the first round
and not injuriously split the GP by binding them so we end up with a Nader
vs Cobb division (a reasonable projection at this point). Please recall the
resolution passed at the state convention that it is hoped that MA
delegates will at least vote GP (and not outside the party - Nader now
heads the Populist Party, for example).

Respectfully,

Wanda

Steve is correct. The Reform Party has now placed itself in position to
become the third party, instead of the Green Party. The Green Party really
has shot itself in the foot.

How did this happen? We need to keep in mind the fact that Nader withdrew
his possible GP candidacy because of negative signals and actions by the GP
Misleadership, which early on was out to Get Nader (see my earlier memos on
The Campaign to Stop Nader) and promote Cobb.

These people are comprised mainly of the present Steering Committee plus
the Cobb supporters. Unfortunately the damage they did cant be undone.
But we can remind ourselves that it was the hostility of the Misleadership
that turned Nader away and led to the present situation that places the
Reform Party far ahead of the Green Party.

In other words, as I also said several times, their strategy contributed
to the decline and possible disappearance of the Green Party as a serious
and growing force in American politics. That they thought they were doing
the opposite, by rejecting Nader, only shows that they do not deserve to
continue in their present positions. They misjudged and abused their power,
for their personal political gain.

Elect a new Steering Committee. State parties should send in their
nominations, from their CC delegation. Make a statement of No Confidence in
the party leadership.
