Hi Laura,
Happy New Year!
I have some questions for you (though I'm not sure how
familiar you are with the whole merger thing). There are
a couple of Mystic River Greens groups/committees that have
recently formed, and I am a part of two of them.
We have a media/newspaper group that is trying to hammer out the details
of a Cambridge & Somerville area newspaper, which will also
be part of a larger multi-media effort (web, cctv & scat[somerville
community access television], maybe radio, in addition to print).
We also have split into groups to organize ward and city committees.
So there's now a Somerville Greens group and a Cambridge Greens group.
These groups have started to meet and discuss actions and goals. Both
the Somerville Greens group and the media group have discussed expanding
from our predominantly white & middle-class bases. And both groups want
to do it at the outset before we become any more self-selecting.
Of course, the merger with the RCP will have an impact on the very
existence of the Mystic River Greens, and few people I know have any
idea of what the merger actually means! It seems like now is as good
a time as any to discuss the details as far as these committees and
Green or RCP locals are concerned. I can tell you that the MRG has some
growing pains ahead, not the least of which is the name-change (if we
hang around).
Is there any useful place to find out info about the merger?
Personally, I don't like the name MG-RP, and prefer instead MR-GP,
because I prefer "Green" as a noun and "Rainbow" as an adjective!
Lastly, I'd like to promote several upcoming meetings to whatever
Rainbowers might be interested. The media group is meeting this
Friday in Cambridge, the MRG general meeting is a week from tomorrow
and we are holding officer elections (you can see how this might be
a bad thing with an upcoming merger!), and that same night the Cambridge
Greens are meeting. The Somerville Greens are meeting Jan 29th...
All of the meetings are posted on the MRG website
http://www.massgreens.org/mrg, except the one on the 29th...
But I'd be happy to write up an invitation geared directly to
members and supporters of the Rainbow Coalition Party.
Just let me know!
Cheers,
Eli >>
