*Please Read, Take Action and Forward*

Dear Owen,

Last week, opponents of equality began collecting signatures to place on the
2008 ballot a mean-spirited constitutional amendment that would revoke equal
marriage rights and provide no protections for same-sex couples and their
families.

*The hierarchy of the Catholic Church is strongly backing this new
amendment.* In fact, according to the director of Catholic Citizenship, "the
bishops have asked every priest to name someone to help" with the petition
effort and have named this Sunday "Protect Marriage Sunday."

The Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry, one of our coalition
partners, is now providing a way for *Catholics who favor equal marriage
rights* to register their respectful disagreement with the church hierarchy
on this issue.

*If you are Catholic, please sign the Roman Catholic Statement in Support of
Marriage Equality.* The stakes are very high. It is more important now than
ever before that people of faith who support equality make their voices
heard.

We urge all Catholic supporters of equality to raise your voice now and
publicly announce your support for equal marriage rights. Visit

read the Statement and add your name.

If you are not Catholic but have Catholic friends who might like to
sign, *please
forward this message* to them.

Thank you,

Marty Rouse
Campaign Director

P.S. Don't forget to report when you see folks out collecting signatures on
the anti-equality initiative petition. We have already had many reports of
questionable practices. Send e-mail to report at MassEquality.org or call
