Friends:
I want to share one thing I've been doing for anti-war demonstrations. Feel
free to copy or adapt this idea for yourselves and your locals. I've
designed a leaflet (5.5" x 4.25") to get Green/Green-Rainbow visibility at
these protests. On Saturday, 3/22 I distributed close to 300 of them at the
Westover AFB in Chicopee, Mass.
There are 4 different styles to the front side, each style bearing one of 4
quotes. They are:
* "Brute force, no matter how strongly applied, can never subdue the
basic desire for freedom and dignity." - The Dalai Lama
* "Anything that creates understanding in the long run makes for less
violence." - Aung San Suu Kyi
* "There's no turning back...We will win. We are winning because ours is
a revolution of mind and heart." - Caesar Chavez
* "Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is
mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction
devised by the ingenuity of man." - Gandhi
One the opposite side is a simple message: Thank you for working for peace
and justice today, followed by Green Party of the United States,
Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts, and Hadley Greens along with the
webside addresses for each of these 3 groups.
My main objective was to provide for a Green presence at the demonstrations,
but I didn't like the overtly "Vote Green" messages I've seen on materials
on Green websites. They seemed heavy-handed and out-of-place, so I was
afraid they'd turn off non-Greens. Alternatively, the quotes might help to
reaffirm or inspire the demonstrators (as well as keep them non-violent) and
the 'Thank you' offers some appreciation for the work that so often goes
unnoticed and unappreciated.
Overall, I was pleased with the response. A few people said they were
'really nice' and appreciated them.
I'm planning on printing and distributing more in Boston on 3/29. If anyone
would to see the leaflets or talk more about them, just let me know.
