Dear friends, colleagues, and fellow activists,
On the Saturday, February 25th, Administrative Committee
teleconference, the Administrative Committee discussed concerns
regarding bias and transparency in decision-making, particularly
decisions regarding the March 4th Nominating Convention in Worcester.
It is known and of concern that some members of the Administrative
Committee and the Exploratory Committee are also members of specific
campaign committees for potential positions on the slate of statewide
candidates, and that these affiliations could bias and tilt decision
results in the favor of the particular candidate.
The Administrative Committee strongly agrees that these are valid and
principled concerns concerning these members and their campaign
affiliations.
We also recognize that bias can never fully be eliminated. While the
Administrative Committee does not have the authority to set party
policy, we are encouraging all working committees where campaign
affiliation exists to adopt the practice of proactive transparency,
where the persons in question announce their affiliations. We cannot in
good conscience ask these valuable volunteers to leave their respective
committees, but we can request that they let their affiliations be
known to the others. We also ask all persons who may hold concerns of
bias to please assume good-faith in working together- We are all
biased, one way or another, yet we must stay closely-knit to work
towards our common destination, even if our views of the journey
differ.
We would finally like to remind that all meetings are open to the
membership who may be curious or wish to participate. Physical
Administrative Committee meetings are usually on the first Monday of
every month and teleconferences are held on the fourth Saturday of
every month. If you would like to join any other meeting, please email
or call me and I would be happy to point you in the right direction.
If there's anything you ever need, please don't hesitate to ask.
Your brother in the struggle,
Colby Peterson, Communications Director, on behalf of the entire
Green-Rainbow Party Administrative Committee
