GRPers,

I have been working (in a non-partisan fashion) with a bunch of global
warming and peak oil activist groups in the Connecticut River Valley to get
more traction on URGENT (will civilization survive as we know it?) issues
of sustainability in our area of the state amongst the business and
municipal communities - John and Jane public at large. We are in the
process of setting up a network, having enlisted the services of a
professional in this field. It is my vision that the towns of Amherst and
Northampton, generally middle class, intellectual, and progressive towns of
35,000, could set an example for other regions in our state and in other
state by swithching to much more bicycle and moped use, carpooling, and
small biodiesel bus use. Maybe having only 25 mph speed limits. The idea
is to become a gentle place, like Copenhagen - the not mean-spirited,
hyperindividuated Bush-Cheney dog-eat-dog, corporate madhouse.

The two attached short pdf files are great inspirers for building trust and
vision in any organization. I think GRP could use much, much more soul
reflection on the part of its active members. Such endeavor on the part of
each of us individually might help arrest our circular firing squad
pastimes. It is my hope that if you read these, you will bring more
positivity to GRP communal life.

Larry Ely, Secretary GRP
