To Adcom colleagues:

A clarification is needed here. Grace was not at the first couple of
meetings of the newly elected AdCom at which Nat and I explained that
our hope was for Adcom to focus on its administrative tasks -- which
were and are sorely in need of strengthening and attention. (We, in
fact, ran for co-chairs on this basis.) This includes AdCom's being
more responsive to the results of votes taken at StateCom meetings. As
you know, we have a long list of such duties to follow through on.

Part of that administrative focus was not to spend time considering
endorsements and sponsorships -- which we felt belonged appropriately
to the Platform committee when it involved issue positions and which
could also belong to the External Relations Committee. Our feeling is
that AdCom's time would be better spent activating the working
committees rather than doing the work of the working committees. In
fact, if it were clear that certain things SHOULD be done by the
working committees -- and otherwise might not get done at all --
people would see the necessity of their participation and not assume
that AdCom will fill the gaps.

In short, while Grace refers to expecting responses from AdCom
members, some of us feel that this is not AdCom's job -- and that
AdCom needs to pay closer attention to its own work. Hence my
referring this to the Platform Committee.

Sorry that, as new people have joined Adcom, this expectation/goal was
not communicated.
