Why do you assume/describe McKinney and Brown as "angry"? They are both
incredibly powerful, savvy leaders. And they can be angry - but who amongst us
can't? And who of the major parties have we not seen be angry? I am not
Christian, but Jesus overturned the tables of money launderers - did that
undermine his leadership? I think it is refered to as prophetic anger - something
we need more of, in my book, these days, not less.
Also, given that our entire society is moving toward being a plurality of
people of oclor (even as the right wing forces do everyhting they can to try to
stop that and certainly undermine the political participation of those
burgeoning numbers of people of color - seems like a great time for us to get out
front - run campaigns that reach directly to African American, Native American and
hopefully Latino voters. It would finally mean facing and hopefully
beginning to overcome the subtle racism and sexism in our party about who our elected
representatives can be and hopefully move us into the leadership position as
a party that we need to be if we are going to actually become the party of
change.
So bring on the leaders of color and women, and wow, maybe even women of
color - Lets choose thoughtfully and wisely about which of these leaders can best
model what prophetic leadership (osme times angry, mostly not but always
non-violent) can be - and as much as possible put that leadership up side by side
with the spun, mealy-mouthed, ungrounded, warped leadership that we usually get
offered nationally - and see what happens!
Love, Grace
