Dear Ron,
Thank you for your communique. There is a two-way channel required by
our by-laws and by Massachusetts law, called a "quorum." As of this
moment you are a member of it, and your physical presence may be
needed. I do not know if the free speaker-phone
minutes that you seek will be sufficient to fulfill the requirement
that a vote taken must have a quorum if it is to have standing in law.
I leave that question to our parliamentarians. At an MRG gathering,
Thursday evening, planning the food we were to bring, some concern was
expressed about whether we would have a quorum Sunday.
While I am grateful for your concern that we have a quorum, and your
considerateness of the niceties of the laws of the state, I, who am
less respectful, must remind you that the GRP, upholding Green
Politics, is also concerned with Green Values. all ten, and building
community. Need I point out out that it is a long time since our
gatherings have been graced by your presence.
Do make every effort to be truly present. There is nothing to be
gained in distinguishing yourself by 'egotistical absence' -- one of
many tactics of Duopolistic politics, and emulative social behaviors
that do not advance our common cause. Consciousness and understanding
may be more effective.
With sadness,
Elie Yarden
