Hi Luc,

How about a slogan and a song?

2 ideas:

1. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"
2. "Somewhere Over the Green-Rainbow"

I like you original slogan--it worked and it isnt outdated. With perhaps a
little tweeking (for example "education that makes a difference" or
"education for democracy and more!") I will keep this in the back of my mind
and try to get back to you before Wed. I do recommend one process that
worked for me three times in the past: get together with one or two of your
best buddies, for dinner and libations. After that just brainstorm: write
down all the crazy synonyms you can think of, and you will discover after a
time that one of them works. Another approach that worked for me was
consulting with my grad students on a book title and finding that one of
them (a librarian) had knowledge of key words under which librarians
apparently file their entries for books. We brain stormed for only about 15
minutes and came up with a title (self explanatory) that contained almost
all of those key words. "Money, Media, and the Grassroots: State Ballot
Issues in the Electoral Process." What are your equivalent key words? I
think you need to keep it simple. Fondly and I will get back to you if I
have an inspiration Betts Zisk

Subject: [statecom-discuss] slogan ideas???

Hi GRPers-

I'm writing to seek people's advice on a slogan for my coming school
committee campaign. Last election my slogan was:
"An educator for a change." It worked well because it had a double meaning
that captured much of why I was running. I am a teacher and there were no
teachers on the committee at the time. And as a teacher I work intentionally
to effect social change. It was also useful for campaign volunteers as a
starting point for conversations with potential voters, since it told people
both about me as a person and about my vision of public education.

But this slogan won't work as well with me being an incumbent. I also would
like a new slogan to keep things fresh. I'm meeting up with a family friend
this thursday to work on designing a new logo for our material and it would
be ideal to have a slogan ready to integrate into this design. So, does
anyone have any ideas??? It should be as short as possible and hopefully
have key words that trigger identification points in peoples' minds. One
word I was thinking of trying to use is a form of "democracy." Something
along the lines of "democratizing our schools" or "education for democracy,"
but neither of these seem quite right.

Any ideas would be great!
-Luc
