All:

We need to make sure that people outside of Boston, especially out west, are aware of this meeting. Both people who are/have been historically Rainbow Coalition Party, as well as those who have come to self-identify as Rainbow since the name change and fusion of our two parties in 2002. In order to facilitate this self-identification, the original Rainbow Coalition Agenda is appended to this call.

Also, Merelice and/or Eva and Grace: can you make sure that this gets on the Rainbow Caucus listserv. I don't seem to be on the list, and need to be added. Thanks!

Gary Hicks

CALL FOR A MEETING OF THE RAINBOW COALITION CAUCUS OF THE GREEN-RAINBOW PARTY

DATE: Saturday, May 31

TIME: 1:30 to 4:30 PM

PLACE! District 7 Office, 51 Roxbury Street, Roxbury MA

For information and directions, please call Gary Hicks at 857-891-2803, after 9PM.

  ===================================================================

It has been six years since the Rainbow Coalition entered into the Massachusetts Green Party, and the latter changed its name to reflect that merger.

Since then, a lot of people have done a lot of hard work. In addition to participating in all of the electoral campaigns from 2002 until now, we've also been involved in non- electoral activities such as march/caravans focused on abolishing poverty, and working in several activities in City Councillor Chuck Turner's District 7 [Boston]. Most recently, we have been part of a major coalition in Eastern Massachusetts to combat the negative effects of predatory lending in what has mostly been working people of color neighborhoods in Boston, with prospects to be soon operating in Brockton, New Bedford/Fall River, and Lawrence.

With all of that activity, it's been some time since we had a meeting of the Caucus, first of all to check in with each other as to how we're doing. And then also [partial agenda here, please add other items]:

  >>Update each other as to our activities, get us on the same page. What have we accomplished with these activities. What have we learned?

  >>Assess our status as an entity in the Green-Rainbow Party. We entered the Green Party in 2002 with a set of assumptions and expectations. What were they? Do the assumptions hold? Have the expectations been met?

  >>Where do we go from here? [ in the Dr. Martin Luther King sense of this question]

  >>Do we need to elect co-chairs and a secretary for our Caucus?

  >>When should we meet again?

We hope to see you at the meeting!

  Jennifer Yanco
  Eva Kerr
