CDLC-PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY FORUMS TASK FORCE
MEETING MINUTES OF PHONE CONFERENCE: 1-06-08

NEXT PHONE CONFERENCE ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7 AT 9 PM: Free Conference
Call: Conference Dial-in Number:
(712) 432-9998
Participant Access Code: 525338#

I. Intros: Gary (chair), Emily, Eli B, Rob, Rick, Elie, Mike (Secretary),
Maureen, and Grace (Did I forget anybody?)

II. Reports

A. Elie

1. Contacts with Presidential Candidates: Elie has contacted all of the
campaigns (Nader, Mesplay, Swift, McKinney,
Ball) and he has nothing solid to report from anyone! He was not confident
that we would hear from the candidates
soon.

2. Elie contacted the National GP and requested their support in getting
PBS coverage for our forum(s). We will not
be receiving any support from the national.

However, we briefly discussed that there would be a “debate” in San
Francisco on January 13. They are planning to
create a video that would be accessible

B. Regional Forum Reports (Roxbury and Springfield/Holyoke)

SPRINGFIELD/HOLYOKE: No contact with AIC (Grace), Luis didn’t contact
Holyoke Community College (will look at it
tomorrow.)—will look at another school tomorrow. Possibility of a church.
No Planning Forum Committee has been
set up yet.

ROXBURY: Elie attempted so far unsuccessfully to get in touch with Chuck
Turner, who was supposed to get in touch
with RCC. Chuck will be busy until Tuesday. Gary contacted Chuck and left a
message.

III. What are the implications of these reports?

A.	Elie believed that we should move forward on a contingency basis. He
doesn’t think that we would hear from
the candidates until after the January 13 SF forum. He thinks that at least
McKinney and Nader would be visiting MA
before the primary because of the importance of doing some fundraising
before our February 5 primary.

B.	Emily, Mike, Gary were concerned that we don’t have enough lead-time.

C.	Mike proposed a different plan. Let’s plan on having smaller events
across the state. We can meet in smaller
venues, people’s homes, etc. We can use the SF video.

D.	Gary agreed with Mike. He would ask Comcom’s assistance to get the video
on local cable stations.

E.	Eli (Chair of ComCom) agreed that that the ComCom would assist with the
videos.

F.	Grace joined our meeting and wanted to know if a decision had been made.
She advocated for more time before
we would abandon our initial plans. We discussed this for awhile.

G.	Grace proposed that we continue with our initial plans (contacting the
candidates and finding 2 sites) and have
another meeting on Thursday. Emily and Mike expressed the belief that there
was not enough time. Emily proposed
that we wait until Wednesday evening.

H.	Elie said that he would send out contact information for all of the
candidates and asked all of us to contact the
candidates. If the candidates would hear the same message from more people,
the message would sound stronger.

DECISIONS:

1.	We will continue contacting the candidates and getting the 2 sites.
2.	We would need the commitment of at least 3 candidates and at least 1
site by our Wednesday meeting.

Mike expressed a concern that no regional committee meetings had been
established. After a brief discussion, Mike
said that his point was heard and that he was withdrawing his concern
because he was confident that this issue
would be addressed on Wednesday.

IV. Discussion about Adcom Meeting on Monday, January 7

A.	Rick (our delegate to Adcom) and Grace will be attending the phone
conference.
We will ask Adcom to authorize some $ for our forums. Additionally we want
Adcom to know that we will need
assistance from different GRP committees and that all members of State
Comm. will be needed to be contacted and
asked for assistance with the 2 forums.
