To Jim Hammerman and the State Committee:
I stand corrected regarding the current policy on alternates to the state
committee.
The bylaws available on the website via the 'Learn More' tab on the home
page sidebar are from 2005. Evidently changes were made at the 2006 state
convention. The minutes of state conventions, as our current secretary
recently pointed out, are sparse. However, Dan Melnechuk does have the
wording of the bylaws change that was passed by consensus at the 2006 state
convention.
Alternates are recognized as representatives to the state committee
immediately after credentialing, like everybody else, as long as there is a
slot open for them (they are replacing a certain rep with the same gender or
a vacancy for that gender from their region or else they are filling a
diversity slot by stepping into a temporary vacancy).
Procedures Committee will see to it as soon as possible that this bylaws
change is incorporated into the bylaws and made available on the website.
I wasn't at the 2006 convention, so I was not aware of this change. Sorry
for the confusion - but at least both of us and everybody else has learned
something.
Wanda
