Dear StateCom member,
The Administrative Committee met on June 16, 2008 in a telecon and we
discussed the purpose of this just-begun Special State Committee
Meeting. At the end of the April 12, 2008 State Committee Meeting, we
called for a virtual State Committee in order to handle the delegate
question. We did this by consensus.
From the minutes of the June 16, 2008 Administrative Committee telecon,
here is the purpose of this Special State Committee Meeting, which was
referred to in Jamie O'Keefe's email below as the "text of the clarifying
question to be put to the state committee":
PURPOSE OF THIS SPECIAL STATE COMMITTEE MEETING
The purpose of this special online meeting is solely to appoint and
approve delegates to the national convention. This is to be done in
the following manner: If a candidate who has earned delegates
supplies a list of proposed delegates, then state com needs to
approve and accept that list. This is pro forma, provided the list
follows the directions specified in the delegate selection plan. If a
candidate who has earned delegates does not supply a list of
proposed delegates, then state com needs to propose and approve
delegates willing to represent the voters who voted for that
candidate. Finally, State Com also needs to propose and approve
"uncommitted" delegates.
