Dear all:
Have been away on extended vacation and it is a pleasure to see that folks
have ambitiously been planning ways to move forward the progressive agenda
locally. The goals seem very good, but it all depends on what political basis a
party is developed. Is it left, radical,left-liberal?This raises larger questions
as to the GP nationally and its direction.
As I stated in a number of my prior posts, the key task, or so it seems to
me, is not to repeat the mistakes of the past and not to present the GRP as a
reincarnation of the by now old new left.
Simply put, as an EX -radical ,I believe that the program of the GP has to be
oriented towards potential democratic party voters, both registered dems and
unenrolled.
As I stated many times last spring- in my heart I am as radical as the first
day, I came across the Manifesto. My own personal experience, however, has led
me to the belief that a progressive agenda and party needs to be oriented
towards a democratic left.By default, I am more or less a supporter of Michael
Harrington type of politics and believe that is the direction to head in-a mass
based party that might be Green but would encompass many dems.
Enough rhetoric.
Hope to make some WB meetings, but have been inactive not only due to health
problems, but also due to an orientation of the GP that I see as not a winning
strategy.
Replies welcome.
Best regards
Paul Wernick
