April 30, Boston, MA
Springfield is Part of Massachusetts, Too!
City Workers and Citizens Rally in Boston To Educate the Rest of the State
About Springfield's Fiscal and Political Crisis
Members of Springfield's 29 municipal employee unions and citizens of the
city will go to Boston on Saturday April 30 to rally at the State House.
Since the Romney-appointed Finance Control Board and the Governor, himself,
refuse to visit, meet with and/or engage the workers and citizens of the
city in meaningful discussion about the causes and effects of and solutions
to the fiscal crisis, we are going to Boston to try to meet with the
Governor. At the very least, we will tell the stories - to the eastern part
of the state - about the cuts in services, the catastrophic decline of the
school system, the growing crisis of public safety, the union-busting and
the destruction of representative government through an unelected and
unaccountable Finance Control Board.
We also intend to invite the Governor to spend some serious time in
Springfield. He is, after all, Governor of the entire Commonwealth. And,
he can get to Utah, South Carolina, Iowa and even New Hampshire through
Springfield!
We invite everyone - from all of western Mass. - who wants to support
Springfield and the principles of quality public services, public education,
union rights and representative government to join us.
Buses will leave from the High School of Science and Technology at 8am. The
rally in Boston will start at 11am. Buses will return to Springfield
between 3 and 4pm. There will be a nominal fee for the buses for adults
(children and seniors are free). For more information, call Richard Sanders
or Mary Chamberlain at the Springfield Education Association office -
782-8300.
