PUBLIC FORUM ON THE DOWNING STREET MINUTES
Saturday, July 23rd, the third anniversary of the controversial meeting at
Downing Street, London, John Bonifaz will speak at the Media Education
Foundation, 60 Masonic Street in Northampton. At the 4pm gathering, Bonifaz
will address evidence that the Bush administration planned during the
summer of 2002 to attack Iraq and to use the United Nations to provide
justification for their preemptive invasion.
The Downing Street minutes, documents recently leaked to the British media
and reported around the world, clearly state that our government planned to
"fix the intelligence around the policy." The administration denies any
wrongdoing and the major media has chosen to ignore this stunning
revelation which documents a plan to take our country into war with Iraq
under false pretences.
Come hear John Bonifaz who testified on this issue at a Congressional forum
in Washington DC on May 16th of this year. Bonifaz is a Boston based
attorney specializing in constitutional law and is co-founder of
AfterDowningStreet.org. In February 2003, he represented US soldiers,
parents of US soldiers and Members of Congress as lead counsel in John Doe
v. President Bush, a constitutional challenge to President Bush's authority
to wage war against Iraq absent a congressional declaration of war.
Mr. Bonifaz will speak at this public forum on the constitutional issues
raised by the Downing Street minutes. There will be an open discussion on
how to instigate an inquiry into the issues raised by these documents,
given the lack of investigative coverage.
This event is sponsored by the WMass chapter of Progressive Democrats of
America. PDA is holding similar events around the nation on this the third
anniversary of the secret meeting on Downing Street from which the minutes
were generated.
