Hello, folks,

There seems no debate among those "in the know". The conventional political
wisdom in the Third Hampden District is that Rosemary Sandlin shall easily
win the Democratic Party primary to become my single best organized and most
well connected opponent come November. She shall also be the one candidate
with the largest campaign war chest by far.

Rosemary Sandlin is also one of my very close and dear friends in town, and
she has now just experienced a terrible loss that could have profound
implications regarding the course of the campaign. At 4 PM yesterday,
Rosemary's home was badly damaged in a fire that caused (by the Springfield
Republican's estimates) from $80,000 to $100,000 in damage.

I traveled to Rosemary's home today. She's well, but is shaken, and notes
that it may be three months or more before she can move back into her very
own home again. With regards to how this tragedy shall affect the course of
the campaign, Rosemary may have public comment soon. April 20th is the next
scheduled public meeting for her campaign committee.

Rosemary has been a true family friend of the Broadhursts in Agawam for
nearly thirty years. She has our prayers, our best wishes, and our pledge of
all possible personal assistance in what are sure to be trying times ahead
for her. We do not anticipate her withdrawal from the campaign, and have
urged her to please know we're here for her should she need us.

She's by far my strongest opponent in this race. She's also my close friend.
