*MassEquality misrepresents Green-Rainbow Party candidate *

BOSTON (Thomas E. Kilduff) - MassEquality inadvertently misrepresented the
views of a Green-Rainbow Party candidate.

In endorsing Rosemary Sandlin for state representative in the Third Hampden
District in Western Massachusetts, a letter dated August 7 and signed by
MassEquality Political Director Matthew McTighe stated, "The choice in the
election is clear. Rosemary Sandlin supports equal marriage rights for
same-sex couples and opposes the pending constitutional amendment that would
revoke marriage equality. Her opponents oppose equal marriage rights."

The problem was that one of Sandlin's opponents, Green/Rainbow Party
candidate Owen Broadhurst supports equal marriage rights.

"I was part of the Northampton Pride March steering committee since 1991 and
active on the front lines since 1990, the year I came out," said openly-gay
Owen Broadhurst. The Green-Rainbow Party candidate claims that he was in
support of same sex marriage "years before MassEquality even existed!"

McTighe and Broadhurst spoke on Thursday, Aug. 17, and McTighe apologized
for the misrepresentation and promised clarification.

McTighe says that volunteers have been clarifying Broadhurst's position by
phone. "I spoke to the field organizer handling that region," said McTighe.
And he said the e-mail to our members has not gone out yet because we were
waiting to get the full schedule of volunteer activities from the Sandlin
campaign so we can incorporate volunteer tasks into that message, but that
it will go out later this week. I exchanged voicemails with Broadhurst last
week and explained the situation."
