***August 29: Informational Meeting on the National Animal Identification
System* *and its Effects on Small Farmers
*
*If you raise animals, you could be required to use a device like this. NAIS
(National Animal ID System) is a federal animal tracking system set to
require all livestock animal owners to identify their animals. If you own a
single horse, chicken, goat, cow or alpaca or if you care about local
agriculture – you need to know about NAIS.*
*What:* An informational meeting on what NAIS is and how it will affect your
farm, 4H projects, and the viability of local agriculture. We'll have
resources available to help you take action by telling government officials
why NAIS is wrong for the future of agriculture. Guest speaker: Jack
Kittredge of Many Hands Organic Farm, Barre, MA.
*Why:* NAIS will put unnecessarily burdensome regulations on small farmers,
threatening the viability of small and sustainable agriculture and
undermining food security. But NAIS has not yet been fully implemented and
we have a window of opportunity to act right now to stop it.
*When:* Tuesday, August 29, 7:00pm
**
*Where: *Agawam Public Library, 750 Cooper St, Agawam, MA, Community Room*
***
*Sponsored by:* The Northeast Organic Farming Association, Massachusetts
Chapter
*Contacts: *Bernice Rueli, Agawam livestock owner
