If you have any questions, contact CDLC Co-chair Maureen Doyle, medoyle3@yahoo.com, 508-764-8042.  Thank you for running!

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Date this form was completed:  July 15, 2015

Name of Candidate:  Sean Connell

Office Sought (e.g. House, Senate): School Committee

District (if any): _Fall River, MA______

I am seeking:_X_Endorsement (in a nonpartisan races)  ___ Nomination ( in a partisan race where you will be the GRP nominee)

Date of StateCom meeting at which approval is requested (if known): July 19th 2015

If you are unable to attend the meeting at which your application will be considered, do you wish to designate someone else to speak officially on your behalf?  If so, provide their name here: __N/A_____

My current party registration is: ___ GRP / _X_ Other:_Unenrolled_____

Have you switched voter registration during the previous two years?

_x_ YES _ _ NO.

If “YES”, list your former registration and the date of switching:

I was switched from Green-Rainbow to Unenrolled in 2013 when the GRP lost party status. I do not know the exact date, the state did it for me. It was sometime early in 2013, after the 2012 statewide elections. I remain unenrolled so I can participate in any primary I choose. There is also a lot of sentiment against party affiliation in Fall River so strategically I stay unenrolled and instead pay dues to the party (although I must shut off my automatic payments for a few months so I can focus on my campaign).

Have you ever run for public office before?  If so, please list year, office sought, and party designation under which you ran: This is my first run!

Please list, in reverse chronological order, any appointed, elected, or volunteer offices in which you have served during the past ten years, if they are relevant to policies and interests of the GRP . [This is to help the endorsing body understand your background.]

I have been interested in the Green Rainbow party since 2006 when I voted for Grace Ross for Governor. Since then, I have gotten active in every level of the Green Party. At the national level, I attended the 2012 Nominating Convention, served in the Youth Caucus (2012), and was a delegate to the National Party from the GRP (back in 2008?). I have been to almost every state convention, which is where I first got my start at the GRP speaking on a panel about youth engagement when the convention was at Clark University. In addition, I have served on the State and Administrative Committees. I served as State Treasurer for two years (2012-2014). I have also been instrumental in creating a local chapter, Bristol County/Fall River, which is slowly getting off of the ground. My candidacy will be a way to bring the chapter back together as well.

Are you currently an employee of municipal, state, or federal government?

__ YES __X__NO.

Have you received endorsements from any GRP locals?  If so, please list (And ask them to forward their endorsement statements to CDLC).

The Bristol County/Fall River chapter is not yet official so I did not seek their endorsement. I personally recruited all of our current members and officers and am certain they would endorse me. We will use my campaign to do the necessary things/hold the necessary meetings to officiate the chapter.

Please list any other involvement over the past ten years with the Green-Rainbow Party, Green Party, or affiliated organizations.

I have stated all of my Green Party experience above.

What specific education, practical experience, organizational affiliations, or background can you cite as enhancing your qualifications to run for this office?

I hold two Bachelor’s Degrees, one in Political Science and one in Women & Gender Studies, from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. I have served on the Steering Committee for the Coalition for Social Justice, as well as being an intern and a paid organizer (I will also be seeking their endorsement in the next few weeks). I have also run/helped run many campaigns over the years including ballot initiatives, presidential candidates, Congressional candidates, and mayoral candidates.

CANDIDATE STATEMENTS

What is your basic campaign message for the electorate (boiled down to its essence, no more than 100 words):

We have a government in Fall River in which the people no longer trust. Starting with the recall effort of Mayor Flanagan, people started to demand alternatives to cronyism and mismanagement. I am running to give our youth & students that same voice. Having working with Fall River’s youth for the last three years, I know they are being ignored and our education system has not kept pace with our economy. I want to focus on innovating education, ending bullying in all forms, and reigning in exorbitant salaries for our top officials who are not advancing our educational goals as promised.

Is there anything else the GRP should know regarding this application? If so, please note here.
