2017 Green-Rainbow Party State Convention Report

2017 Green-Rainbow Party State Convention Report

The Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party held its state convention on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the First Unitarian Church of Worcester, located at 90 Main Street.

State Convention Planning Committee Members:

Roni Beal – co-chair

Joyce Palmer Fortune – co-chair

Matthew Andrews (participated in first meeting in February and offered two excellent suggestions, guest speaker, Patricia Montes and a panel discussion with open mic for new members)

Brian Cady

John Helfrick

David Spanagel

Richard Vaillette

The convention planning committee held nine meetings from February 1, 2017 to May 3, 2017.  StateCom members voted at the October 10, 2016 meeting to hold the 2017 state convention in Worcester.  StateCom members also voted to hold the 2018 convention in Boston, which will require collaboration from the Greater Boston chapter to locate a suitable venue near public transportation at price that the Party can afford.

Convention theme:

Building the Party and Expanding the Green-Rainbow Tent

Credentialing:

Registration staff did not have voter information and was unable to credential walk-in registrants.  There was at least one known attendee who wore a green badge that was not a “J” voter.

After the convention, Roni contacted Joyce about credentialing source.  Joyce recalled that voter data can be retrieved at the following website:

Log into secretary of state website for voter list.

Secretary of State Website to obtain voter registration for credentialing for walk-in registrations:

https://www.sec.state.ma.us/voterregistrationsearch/myvoterregstatus.aspx

It was noted that at least one walk-in registrant had a green badge who was not a “J” voter at the May 13, 2017 convention.
