There is now urgency addressing the GBC matter, because the elected secretary of the GBC group, David Rolde, has just sent a message to the ‘gbc-biz’ group stating that the GBC group’s name is ‘Greater Boston Chapter of the Green-Rainbow Party’. A group cannot have a counter-factual name, and we and this group must correct the GBC Secretary in order to move forward in Boston. I do think we can move ahead, because the Secretary does not in my opinion represent the membership, or even the officers, of this group, in his claim about the group being a chapter of the GRP.

I’m proposing that we adopt a simple motion correcting that counter-factual comment by the GBC Secretary. I don’t see need to act further, except to authorize AdCom and GRP officers to work with the current co-chairs of the GBC group to work with us to rebuild a GRB voice and presence in Boston. It can be a short agenda point and I’m sure we can act on consensus.

I’m on the ‘gbc-biz’ email list of the group co-chaired by David Barkley and Michelle Fahey that originated in the Greater Boston chapter. I see no posts there by either co-chair, and only notices by David R. of meetings of the “Covid repression” group, which was never actually a project of the GBC. I have not been able to reach David Barkley, but my understanding is that he is friendly toward the GRP and I see no evidence that he or Michelle wish to claim for their group to represent the GRP; nor to assert a claim by that ‘gbc’ group on money that was donated to the chapter. AdCom is empowered to suggest disposition of funds such as those that were in the GBC account.

I don’t see any urgency in addressing this matter Sunday, in the absence of a written report or proposal by AdCom or others. It could well be addressed by AdCom and by GRP members working with AdCom. I note that all concerned qualify as GRP members and should have reason to meet at Black Indian Inn, Dorchester, a space offered by Barkley, to discuss building a Green voice and presence in Boston or Greater Boston. Discussions could start informally. At the meeting there in March I didn’t see the disruptions that I had seen and heard of at earlier GBC meetings.

I don’t think the agenda item dealing with the former GBC needs 1 1/4 hours. 3 hours is too long for a third session that never should have been necessary after two 3 hour sessions in the first place. We are supposed to meet for a total of 6 hours just as we would have done when meeting in person. Let’s cut the time for this item to 30 minutes and not add anything extra to the agenda.

There are major actions to plan around the defense of women’s constitutional rights, around the current NATO war in Ukraine, and around climate action. These are not listed on the agenda yet.

The previous StateCom session took an action contrary to the bylaws in refusing to seat a qualified elected alternate. This should be corrected May 22.
