Greens Applaud Bristol County Coalition for Justice and AG Maura Healy

Sheriff Tom HodgsonBased on years of community demands, the jailing of student protestors, and a scathing report by Attorney General Healy, the U.S Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has shuttered the notorious ICE detention facility at the Bristol County Jail, run by the even more nationally notorious Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson.  Tom Hodgson, it may be remembered, was the honorary chairman of Massachusetts’ presidential election campaign for Donald Trump in 2020.  More significantly, Sheriff Hodgson had offered to send Bristol County inmates "to build Trump's Mexico wall"

Under the controversial "287g" contract, the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement delegates its powers to local enforcement officers to arrest and detain individuals on suspicion of being an "illegal immigrant."  The cancellation of these contracts in Bristol County and in Irwin County, Georgia signal recognition by the Biden Administration that these contracts have been a major source of abuse and injustice.

The SouthCoast Chapter of the Green-Rainbow Party is proud to have participated in "Shut Down ICE" protests organized by the Bristol County for Correctional Justice and to have supported the students in the FANG Collective who were jailed for their actions at the gates of the now-notorious detention center in Dartmouth MA.

The job is not yet done.  Other “suspects” are still being treated as convicted criminals in the Massachusetts county “justice” system run amok.

This is the kind of coalition work necessary to overcome the anti-democracy movement accelerating in our country. Congratulations South Coast Greens and the Bristol County for Correctional Justice community group. You have added to the momentum needed to build victory upon victory.
